Alternator part found?

Post by RustyRed »

Evening all.

My alternator has stopped working and struggling to source the correct one due to the pulley configuration.

I've got a 1.9 DG 1988

I have removed the alternator and had a look at the brushes by removing the regulator, and this could be my problem. There is a copper u shape piece of metal that is lose and looks like it should be attached to something. Some videos online I can see it fixed in place but not clearly. I have no idea what to do with it or what it should do, any ideas please?

Hi Rob, this sounds like a plan. Need one for Thursday latest becuase I'm planning on taking her on her first holiday Friday, typical isn't it.

I don't know the output, numbers have been rubbed off but I was hoping at least a 65amp, I have a leisure battery but not a full on kitchen conversion so powers lights.

Im in Knutsford, where are you?

I think all new alternators either come with no pulley or a diesel one these days . It’s only the pulley that is different between them iirc .

don’t send your existing one in as a exchange before you take the pulley off !

as long as it’s a late van there is no fitting difference between 65 and 90 amp Dg and dj
