Electrical issues.

Post by Satch »

Hi,

I have a question regarding my 1986 Petrol 1.9 DG Watercooled van.

It hasn't moved much in the last year and since re charging a flat battery I've had issues with...

Temp light flashing,

Oil light not coming on before firing up,

Blowers not working,

And last but not least the wipers don't work.

Any ideas? I haven't had any issues before but I've only driven 500 miles since i bought it.

All simple solutions welcome!

Cheers Paul.

Take the battery off and fully recharge it
Check all the battery connections are clean and tight
Check the earth crowns are clean above the fuse box
Open the engine lid and check the coolant is full to the brim on the header tank ( not the top tank behind numberplate )
Check the double brown wires into the white twin spade connection near to the LHS head and black electric box in the front of the engine bay is not all green and corroded

Thanks Steve,

All points checked, I'll charge up the battery tonight and see what happens!

Oh I forgot the heater fan and wipers bit ..... I will assume it’s early van with bullet fuses, and therefore both are on one fuse and the heater fan is seized and has blown the fuse it shares with the wipers

I forgot to mention that the van has been in the garage having a steel exhaust fitted, so I got him to change the fuse (bullet type) whilst he had it there. He had the wipers working but the fuse popped pretty soon after.
