Electrical noise around rear upper glovebox area

Post by nesty »

Hi All

About 4/5 months ago I had my windscreen wiper motor and heater blower replaced all good.

Though, now a what sounds like a arcing/shorting noise occurring, what seems like behind the glovebox (or that area) above, it’s not constant, but comes and goes but mostly comes on when in motion (though it sometimes happens when stationery), it might not be anything to do with the above, but I’ve stuck my head down there can’t smell any burning and nor can see any charred connections etc.

Any idea’s?

I suppose if could finds a you tube video to match the sound might help?

The 'earthing ring' is located up there so maybe one of the spade connections is loose and arcing when going along?

Ok many thanks for this, I'll have a check. If something is arcing surely that would that not blow the fuse?

Not necessarily if it's an Earth wire a bit loose and just touching.

Looks like this with a load of Brown wires stuck on it.

Ok thanks This is a photo I took last year when installed a new 43 relay.
I'll have a look at the weekend and see if I can see anything. I also have an an additional auxiliary bus bar fusebox near to stock fusebox, which runs all the cig lighters, propex, fog lights etc. I might temporary de-activate, that at the weekend and see if the sound stops, I'll know it's that, if not, be something stock wiring somewhere.

Also wondered as I haven't used the van for a while over winter, could it be condensation on some wiring?

Just to say I think I have solved this now!

I have an additional bus-bar auxiliary fuse box (which powers my lighting, propex, cig lighters etc) and 1 of the blade fuses started working it's way loose and making a bad connection (though pulled it out and I broke it in 2). I have to put another fuse back in (typically run out of that rating) and see if that fixes it.

If not, then could be the cigarette lighter earthing against the dash, but it's certainly that circuit, but think it was the fuse, as sound appeared to come from the fuse box area.
