Main beam telltale light

Post by RazorRiggott »

Hi. My T25 has failed it's MOT due to the above. I've removed the instrument binnacle though not the ribbon yet. Are the instrument lights holding it in place just twist fit as they're incredibly stiff? Is there anything special about the telltale light. I believe it's an led - advice on where to buy and how to fit would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Chris

depends on the year, if its early ( before "C" reg) its a yellow led, after its a white bulb with a blue cap ( blue leds were not invented untill '98)
yes the illumination bulbs are twist fit if original and yes they are tight

Main beam telltale light

QQ re: white LED with a blue cap...

Do you have to plug it in, a correct way, i.e. is it an emitter - collector diode? I guess all diodes are, dunno.

What is the correct way, dog leg pin innermost or outermost. Can I break it if I get it wrong?

isn’t that a actual bulb , rather than a led in your picture?.

No you won’t damage anything if you get it wrong
normally leds have a flat side to the actual bulbous part , the flat edge is neg.

yes they only work the correct way round .

if it’s for late  and replacing a filament bulb that the led is comparable voltage . I can’t remember if the bulb works at 12v or if it’s reduced already .

Early tel tale light is an LED and can be replaced with a standard LED with an output of 50-100 mcd but avoid super bright types.

Later vans have a 12v miniature bulb with a blue cap to reduce the output, but a much better alternative to a bulb is to fit a 12v 3mm white LED ( plenty on EBAY and cheap) which last far longer and give a better light output without being too bright. If fitting a 3mm LED it should be fitted with the longer leg at the top.
