Advice on leisure battery please?
Hello all
I'd be grateful if someone could please advise on a replacement leisure battery for under passenger seat fitment on an '88 Autosleeper?
The current 'leisure' battery is standard car starter battery. A bit of internet research seems to suggest that there's no such thing as a genuine 'deep cycle' leisure battery on the market designed for under seat fitment on a T25 (as they're all taller than the 175mm height available)? Is that correct?
I've come across these two, which seem to be hybrid starter/leisure battery:
This 85ah one is 310mm in length: https://www.alpha-batteries.co.uk/volks ... e-battery/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
and this 75ah one 278mm long: https://www.alpha-batteries.co.uk/80-ah ... e-battery/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
My questions are:
1) Are these the best 'leisure' batteries I can expect to buy (presuming a 'proper' deep cycle leisure battery is not available in 175mm height (I don't want to do any modifications, such a moving the leisure battery somewhere else).
2) Will the 310mm length one fit? I've measured the space and it seems it might, just(!) but if anyone with practical experience could let me know that would be very helpful!
Thanks a lot

Thanks. You're right I had looked at the Wiki and had indeed managed to miss this! Still leaves me wondering the same questions though to be honest ie if anyone knows of a deep cycle battery other than these hybrids sold by Alfa, and if anyone has practical experience of fitting a 310mm length battery?

Re: Advice on leisure battery please?
True deep cycle batteries come in 6 Volt form
Often called traction batteries.non that I know will fit under the seat.
In my Autosleeper the lower cupboard to the rear of the fridge now houses a very large battery.
It was a very simple move.
As the little Autosleeper potty was housed in there it now lives in a club80-90 potty box.

Re: Advice on leisure battery please?
Thanks! I won't be wild camping or off hook up for any considerable length of time, so whatever the best battery I can fit under the seat will do for me. Looking like those Alfa batteries might be a good bet

I bought a Tanya XV100MF Powerline Leisure Battery 12V 100Ah a couple of years.
They don't seem to make them anymore but if you phone Tanya batteries, they are very knowledgeable & helpful.

Re: Advice on leisure battery please?
Hi Triumph,
I bought this Alpha battery for under the passenger seat in my 91 Autosleeper [so should be the exact same setup as yours] and it fits perfectly.
It's tight but fits fine, which means that the small wooden/carpet covered lid now fits nice a snug and flat. Whereas it was slightly raised, not enough to interfere with the swivel seat, with the previous battery I had.

Hope that's useful info for you.
Thanks
Nathan

Perfect thanks very much, good to know that Alfa battery fits!
I spoke to Tanya, unfortunately they don't do anything less than 190mm in height.

Re: Advice on leisure battery please?
If you're willing to relocate the battery (and have the room), I'd recommend a truck battery. Mine is 180ah and cost £50 - less than a year old.

Thanks, I may consider moving the battery in the future, but have gone ahead and bought the 85ah Alpha battery for now, I think that will probably do for my needs

Brilliant. My husband is adamant it won’t fit, but I’m going to order one. Thanks.

It's pretty tight, but it did fit (in my van a least!)

We’ll measure it again then. He said it’s only 170mm. If it is nothing will fit it, which seems a bit odd.
