Electrolux RM212 Fidge - electronic Ignition problem

Post by islandboy »

When I fire the fridge up on gas, it lights fine but the piezo igniter stays on clicking and sparking even though the gas is burning correctly and everything else working.

Any suggestion appreciated.

One of two things - The spark electrode needs to be in the flame when the burner lights, (otherwise it doesn't know it's lit & so it keeps on clicking). Other that that the spark generator could be shot. I'd try removing the burner & cleaning the injector & electrode, if that doesn't work then I'd try a new spark generator.

Cheers Captain.

Electrode seems to be in the flame, I can see it glowing when flame lit.

May need to replace spark generator, are these readily available ?

Will pull the fridge out and check it over

Had exactly the same fault on mine. Changing the ignitor unit cured it.

I keep posting as to what occurs when the igniter doesn't sense the flame correctly, search and you will find the posts and diagram.
But your post is a little confusing - either it is a piezo igniter or a spark generator. The terms are not interchangeable! If it is continually sparking you have a spark generator. If you only get a spark upon pressing a button to generate a collision between two components you have a piezo igniter.

Not sure it's that confusing - I'd agree it lacks perfect terminology but it's quite obvious what the OP is referring to, and the explanation of the fault is perfectly fine.

Many thanks for your comments and advice, it is appreciated.

Is there more than one method of igniting the gas jets ?

The instruction manual that came with the van may not be the one for my model of fridge.

The manual states " the bottled gas equipment includes a Piezo crystal lighting device which creates a spark over the burner when the button is pushed in fully "

My fridge does not have a button to push in, it is an on-off rocker switch and has a 12v supply to it. Would this be the "spark generator" that is referred to earlier ?

Your fridge has Electronic Ignition, there is more info on this link: http://www.club80-90.co.uk/pages/downlo ... 2Elect.pdf

Let me know how you get on, I can send you the ignition parts from my old RM212.

Just resurrecting this thread. Preparing my van for summer use, need to fix this problem. Does anyone have a spare ignitor box they would like to part with.

Many thanks

I have a whole westy fridge you can have for £50 if you're interested. All working. No door.

Dan

Just stripped and tested the fridge, definitely the re-ignition circuit gone. would you be interested in parting with the igniter only, the rest of my fridge is good.
