broke down today

Post by scottbott »

going along the M11 today and a bloke pulled along side me and said ''you are loosing water out the back'' I said thanks and noticed the the rear window was covered in a fine mist, managed to pull into the services at junction 8 and had a look at the engine and the red temp switch was hanging in the air,the C clip that holds it had somehow come off and blew the switch out,had to call out the breakdown service and came home on the back of a breakdown truck, hopefully I have not stuffed up the engine, ordered the C clip from justkampers as Brickwerks have none in stock, everything in the engine compartment covered in anti freeze now, nice and sticky

had a similar experience and luckily no adverse reaction, had huge cloud of steam as the coolant poured on to the exhaust.............got my clip, sender and seal from a vw main dealer as it was cheaper than anywhere else...fingers crossed you will also be fine

ordered bits from Justcampers yesterday and they have been dispatched today,so pretty good just not looking forward to bleeding the cooling system as it is messy and do not want the dog getting anywhere near spilt anti freeze, will be a good clean up of the driveway after doing it

anyone know what this is for, engine 1.9 DG,refilled the van and bled it yesterday and took it out for a drive to make sure everything was ok when the buzzer of doom came on,never heard it before,so went home slowly and checked everything, oil ok,plenty of coolant,no leaks, the only thing I did yesterday apart from the refilling the cooling system was take this connector apart as the terminals looked a bit green and crappy but I could not get the terminals out of the plastic housing so I refitted it,I rechecked the plug was pushed all the way back then took the van out today and exactly the same thing the buzzer came on again, any ideas people please?

that was pretty much how it was,it was real hard to take apart, may just cut it off and fit new terminals and heat shrink on top

It's designed to go together only one way
I agree with Steve it looks forced

the terminals in the connector are a bit cruddyImageImage
bought a few connectors and latched terminals from 12 volt planet, used adhesive lined hear shrink and contralube on the new terminals so hope fully it should keep corrosion at bay,the two wires coming out of the wiring harness were pretty grotty looking so I gave them a rub with fine wet and dry to try and clean them up but there has obviously been a fair bit of resistance going through the wireImage
