HELP NO LIGHTS Fixed. ta

Post by AlandAnn »

Currently stranded outside Lugton,Ayrshire with NO main lights, side lights are ok but main lights are out.

1. Have checked fuses, can't find fault.
2. Have changed Bulbs for new, still no joy.
3. Wipers only work when I pull back on the main beam switch lever.

Can anyone tell me what is wrong please ?

hello I would remove the dash pod and check power at the switch. check the plug at the switch then just have a general look around for loose connections. then give the relays a tap it might be stuck hope this helps. I know its not easy in the dark :ok ed

Sounds like it could be a problem with the x-relay which switches the headlights, wipers etc off when the starter motor is energised. When you use headlight flasher it may be putting 12v onto that circuit.

Hi AlanandAnn,
Hope this helps, I found this on another forum:-

Itsw a pain in the butt. There isn't a relay, there is a switch fitted to the indicator unit that is meant to click between dip and main. I have to remove mine and take it apart for the MOT this week because it will only eithe go on dip or sides, but only main on pulling the switch and holding it. Switching to main from dip can leave you with sidelights.. It's a bugger.

One thing you could look at is using an early relay from a bay or type 1 and bypass the switch under the indicator switch.

Take a look and you'll see a flat switch mounted under the indicator stalk, which is operated when you pull the stalk.

If it is an x-relay fault then the heater blower won't work either.

After a further hour of tinkering this afternoon I found the problem :

The 3 or 4 spade ignition connection is cracked and when in a certain position it knocks all the lighting and wipers.

Just need a new one then I can remove the Harry maskers.

If you mean the plastic terminal housing on the end of the cable is fubared then I'm sure I can spare you one. PM if interested. You'll need a suitable pokey thing to pop the terminals out before inserting them into the fresh housing.
