Vdo oil temp/pressure gauges

Post by Funbus »

Hey dubbers,

I've got a 3 gauge vdo set in my van. They were in when I bought it. I think they're out of an old Audi.

The voltage gauge is wired in and working fine. The oil temp and oil pressure gauges are not wired in.

The oil temp gauge range is 60-170oC and oil pressure gauge range is 0-5bar. Problem is I can't find the correct sender anywhere. Even on the vdo website they don't list a sender for the 60-170oC gauge.

What is everybody else using?

I'm going to screw it into the oil filter housing, think the thread is 10-1mm

I have these gauges in my van. They came with a combined sender for oil pressure gauge and low pressure warning light, but I bought this one for the oil temperature gauge:

I tested it in boiling water so I knew where 100deg C was on the gauge.

When it was in the boiling water did it line up with 100oC on the gauge or do you just have to remember where it went to?

My gauge has thicker, numbered graduations at 60, 130 and 170 degrees, 60 and 170 being at min and max. There is one thinner gradation between the 60 and 130, which is where the needle sat with the sender in the water, so I took that to be the 100 degree mark. There are three graduations between 130 and 170 which I assume are 10 deg intervals, the needle has never got anywhere near there though.

My gauge is the same. There's method in the madness there.
I'm gonna get this Seder ordered.
Any chance you have the part number for the oil pressure sender.

Not sure if I can see anything on the sender without taking it out, but this looks like the right one:

Bit steep though, might want to wait for a s/hand one to come up.

From ETKA for the 'Audi 80 gauges':

Oil pressure sender 5 bar plus 0.3bar switch: 035 919 561
Oil pressure sender 5 bar plus 1.8bar switch: 035 919 561 A
Oil temperature sender 60-170 celcius: 035 919 563 B (blue)

all M10x1 thread.

The temp sender is fitted to many 80's & 90's Audi's, your local friendly scrapper may well have suitable donors laying about..

Those VAG part numbers match up with the eBay listings I referenced, good to know I wasn't leading anyone astray!
