no dashboard lights
strange one this, went out on an errand tonight, the light over the fuel gauge side not working. while i'm parked up, took off the binnacle, touched the offending bulb, got a crackle, shock and bit of smoke. suddenly no dashboard lights at all, and speedo not working (when i set off).
speedo started working fine after a bit.
didn't get chance to dig out a spare bulb i have to test, could it have blown all 3 bulbs? what was the deal with the speedo?
cheers
ps checked everything else out, all working ok

Re: no dashboard lights
Speedo is entirely mechanical, so probably you have dislodged the drive from the back when you removed the cover.
You wont get a shock from the 12V dash electrics, so could have been static. Throw away the synthetic underwear.
You have probably shorted out the bulb holder and blown the fuse.

Re: no dashboard lights
Update.
fitted 3 brand new bulbs, nothing! looking at the pcb strip that surround the bulb over the petrol gauge, it is a bit black and crinkly, looks like thats what shorted and gave me the "shock" originally?
what are my options, i don't have a soldering iron mainly because i have shaky hands these days and i'm "pooh" at soldering!
i could easily run a cable from the headlights and put 3 bulbs in, but they would have to have mechanical connections ie spades?

Re: no dashboard lights
woohoo, all sorted.
got some LED lights from rob (1 eyed jim), they are direct replacements ie quarter turn, but have spade connectors.
1. made a wiring loom to wire them in
2. took off the dashboard binnacle, took out the old bulbs and pulled back the non-working pcb strip
3. connected in the wiring loom. i've previously connected into the lighting circuit to put on a warning light and door buzzer, so i decide to connect into that cable with a snap on connector. connected the earth end to an earth point on the chassis.
4. put in the bulbs to test, 1 needed spinning as it was connected back to front, no problem just change round the spade connectors.
5. put the bulbs into the dash, quarter turn, replaced the binnacle, sorted, including making the wiring loom, took about 10-15 minutes, job done.

Re: no dashboard lights
Can you put a red wire on and then a black and then black to next bulb and red and so on. so you have red at one end and black at the other end or will this not work
