Captain Seats/rear seat swap?

Post by adamb87 »

Hey Guys

I’m so sorry if I’m doing this wrong but wasn’t sure how to post a question.

I have an 84 Autohomes T3 with fully original interior seating and rock and roll.

I was just gifted some t4 rear seating, a triple bench seat with armrests and two fold down singles both with double armrests. I was guessing I could adapt and utilise the singles as front seats. They obviously have non railed brackets and no seat angle turning knob.

The question is would they be suitable and has anyone tried this before? They have great condition tables on the back of them also.

Many thanks in advance.

Adam

Hello Adam,
Erase the other post about this subject. It may help keep a bit of continuity.
Anything is possible if you have ability or a portly wallet.
Shove up a few photos if poss.
Fitting alternative seats is a common upgrade. However there are a few issues to overcome. Height against the steering wheel and fitting to the battery box to name a couple.

Thanks for quick reply.

I’ll post some pics in the morning of the seats I’ve been given. They are basically T4 captain seats but because they were originally used in the rear as the middle row they are foldable and have tables/cup inserts on the back.

I’m hoping I can just unbolt the stands of the seats and then remove the runners from the bottom of the T3 seats and reattach if that makes sense. But not sure if that is possible/if anyone else has any experience of that.

The original passenger seat is on a swivel and driver is just on a rail. Batteries under both as usual.

From your photos it looks a likely proposition. I have seen T4 seating inside a T25 before. Height may be a factor. That is often the main issue. Aftermarket seats sit too high to get legs under steering wheel and your view is then mostly headlining.
Slide out the original T25 seat and place side by side for height reference.
Easiest way is to drill through rails on battery boxes and bolt new ones in place. However it then makes seats
non-adjustable. Set it in position you feel comfortable to drive and get drilling.
Have you a close up photo of T4 seat base?

I don’t think you’ll get those to work in the front , the frames completely different, you would have to butcher those and your stock seat to possibly make something work
