window seals wrong? or i fitted them wrong?

Post by Shinnster »

hey all,

I got a seal to try on my van for the sliding door window, bought from seals direct, but I don't think its the correct size seal. or have i just fitted it wrong? could be that as i've never attempted this before!

my glass is 4mm and the panel is about 1.6mm so i opted for a seal that had the correct sizes, but when its on my van it doesnt sit flush in the corners, and the glass seems to sit further away from the van than it did before (if that makes sense)
its a conversion, not factory fitted windows.

heres how it looks now. does it need time to settle or its just the wrong size?

and heres how the old and new seals compare, old seal is on the bottom.

Unfortunately this can happen. The seals have no moulded corners and so can bunch up when bent. Did you warm the seal in hot water before fitting? This really softens the rubber and can help with this problem.

Have you got flat glass? Looks like they need a bit of repositioning, try pouring some boiling water on the seals they should settle

Take the filler strip back out and warm the seal with hairdryer. Bit of a shove and wiggle on glass should get it sitting better before refitting the filler strip.

i bought a different size seal and fitted that today, was a much better fit compared to my previous attempt! previous one was smaller.
i did go for the hair dryer heat up of the corners too which seemed to help manipulate it much better :)

Come to think of it I had similar problems with windows in high top. Slightly thicker channel did trick.

got them both from seals direct. i didnt have the window out when i bought it so after speaking to someone there they just recommended what they thought would be needed.
