Peugeot 106 sunroof in a tin top?

Post by spanishfly »

This might sound a bit ridiculous but has anyone/ is there a reason not to put a Peugeot 106 sunroof in a tin top. The curve is similar and the caravan one a PO put in leaks and is … we’ll… a bit caravan by and crap?

factory fit sunroofs generally have an internal gutter and drain set up to cope with the inevitable leaks as the hole is trimmed with the seal and the sliding part sits in it flush when closed, I don't know about the structure of the 106 one though it might be basic old school style
Back in the day aftermarket sunroofs sat ontop of the seal and popped up, they very often leaked, generally they were only as good as the care and accuracy of the fitment and the sealant used
Most 10 year old cars with sunroofs leak ime

Thanks, yes I see your point. There was a drain of sorts though not very good. I'm pretty sure it would leak.

Clutching at straws really as looking at the horrible cheap plastic caravan one is just not right.

There must surely be a low profile opening perspex double glazed or glass alternative closer to the look of a westy skylight somewhere that would fit the 39x39cm hole? Or a slightly larger one if necessary?

First world problems eh!

Seitz and Fiamma have quite a range of skylights, the nice ones aren't cheap but are quality and have double glazed bubbles and built in fly and light screens. there are manual and electric options, some have extraction
There are wind deflectors available too
Be aware some caravan ones aren't really suitable for a vehicle that has occupants when moving as they don't seal fully when closed so they will cause whistles as air is drawn out and air has be drawn in somewhere usually at the front doors; hence the whistle stops fitted to Caravelles with vent wing rear windows as they can suffer similarly as anyone who retro fitted velle windows in a basic combi will have experienced
