Whats this part called please? door latch?

Post by Shinnster »

hi,
my sliding door pops open and doesnt latch properly so am trying to figure out why.
i think its this part on the door isnt catching properly, but what is it called? as i cant seem to find a part that looks the same on brickwerks or heritage

also, how hard is it to change a sliding door? mine is rusty at the bottom and may have sourced a better one if its easy enough for a beginner to do.

changing the door is very wasy as long as you have the correct door !
you remove the two phillips screws from the slider cover and remove the cover , then open the door to the indent in the track and lift the roller off the track , and tilt the door down at the  rear so the top roller come out of the top track and lift the bottom up so the roller comes out .
its heavy , its really a two person job .

it's called the sliding door lock if you look closely you'll see the part number stamped on it, probably 251 843 604 B, if you Google the part number you will find that it's pretty much unobtainable new now, there are repair kits for it; but sometimes it's just because the alignment of the door is a bit out so to latch on the pin it's working too hard, and as a result the body of the lock has been forced to spread a little, if you remove it and pop it in a vice and very slightly give it a squeeze so the jaws close up a dadge and refit it and follow the adjustment procedure for the pin and latch you may find it stays shut instead of popping open onto the safety setting.
