Later lock on early slider

Long story, short...

I have inherited a white elephant of a van that I got lumbered with restoring.

Anyway it is a 1983 van with 95% of parts either rusty or broken.

One broken item is the door lock mechanism.

Recently I bought a lock at a very good price that did not need welding or repairing, just cleaning.

Anyway - in typical Robsey fashion, the lock is in really good condition, but it is a later model.
Pah!!

Now I am confident that I could modify the later lock to accept the early bump-stop / buffer, and I could easily put a captive nut in the top M8 mounting hole.

The question is - do I need to, or am I better off getting my early lock welded up.?

I cannot see anything online about the later bump stop arrangement - I assume such a thing exists.

Any thoughts?

Aye - you are probably right.

It is a shame - the later lock is in very good working order.
Ah well, back on ebay it goes.

I have a customer enquiry about a sliding door that won't shut. I recommended he find a replacement door lock. I think you know where I'm going...

Reply sent.

My general comment is check, clean and lubricate yours first.
And if faulty, just get back in touch.

I should confirm right hand drive - therefore left sliding door.

Looking again, it seems this is just the front bit. Bah!!! Not the bit we need.
Do you have the rear striker latch mechanism wirrit?

I didn't get the latch when I bought the locking part.

I didn't need that for my van. At least I don't think so.
Hard to tell until I get a runner rail made up for the central roller mechanism.

My issue is being stood out in the rain for 29 years, un-touched until every mechanism has filled up with hardened grease, years of muck and corrosion. Seized pretty close to solid.

I managed to clean and service all the other parts so that they work fine.

Only the door key tumblers to clean and put fresh wafers into, and get my slider lock mechanism welded up.
I was considering welding on a central locking actutator link arm anyway. So no real biggy.

So to bring it back to the start.

Only the front lock mechanism is available for sale - with first dibs / refusal to the o/p.
From what I understand he probably won't need it - but it will wait here until he knows for sure.
