Just checking around van prior to MOT in a couple of months, aware of this area and treat each year, do not think I will find any gaping holes but tempted to tidy it up prior to MOT. As it stands would like opinions on would it fail the MOT.

Re: MOT Advisory/failure
I'm not an MOT tester, but the b-pillar outer forms part of the support for the JP so if it has any perforations through nearby, I'd presume that would be a fail. It can rust though along the bottom edge and/or along the adjacent seams. If you're just in the habit 'treating' the external appearance of the arch/pillar seam shown in the pic, you may still have a hidden problem. Really you need to pry off the seamsealer on the inside to assess the state of the metal there, and have a bit of a poke with a screwdriver..

Re: MOT Advisory/failure
Thanks, ive had a look on the other side in the wheel arch as best as I can and it all seems quite solid there, I may have a stab with a screw driver on the outer bit to assess the degree of rust, but don't want to create a bigger problem that may not exist yet. The area around the jacking point is also solid but its this term the MOT guide uses that concerns me. IE rust within 30cm or is it 60cm of a safety related part.

Re: MOT Advisory/failure
imho seam rust is very unlikely to cause a MOT failure.
But it is an indicator that there could be problems on the inside or the rust has migrated down into critical areas.
Be more helpful if you could post pics of underneath, lifting points, trailing arm bushings etc so we could see them.

Thanks will have another look around that area and post some pictures if I find any signs of problems. In meantime weather permitting I may file/sand down those areas in picture and clean, treat and fill as required.

Re: MOT Advisory/failure
Mine passed MOT's looking like this. And it was actually worse under the side plank!

Re: MOT Advisory/failure
Thanks, that looks encouraging, I sometimes wonder if repairing/patching an area draws more attention to it, I will probably still tidy up the area though, if anything to preserve it a bit longer.
