I was reading an old thread on water ingress due to the D Pillar air vents and collecting in the bases.  I refurbished the bases of mine last year and had to do a lot of rot removal and fibre glass repairs and filling.  Is there any way that the water drains itself naturally from these areas or do they have to be constantly monitored or waterproofed as best as possible.  I have noticed grommets in this and other areas of the van but they appear to be there to prevent the water from escaping or should they be removed randomly to let the water out, and where should the holes be located if you have to drill your own as depending on how the van is parked they may not drain out naturally anyway.

I’ve got a piece of magnetic tape that runs behind the air scoop - water no longer runs into the vent - there is a thread on it somewhere will try to locate it:

I have a battery in mine one side and a stainless steel kerosene tank in the other side , water don’t get there anymore !  

Thanks looking at the image posted, doesn't the covers prevent heat from escaping from the engine, I notice on mine that warm air does rise through the vents. Ive just realised and edited this post, I can see now what you mean by scoops, locating at the image are these after market or a mod you did yourself.

It should drain away , there a hole in the centre of the tray with gully’s in the metal work to direct the water

Thanks, one hole is visible on one side but not the other and the one that is visible is blocked with a grommet, never sure the purpose of these grommets here and in other places , should they remain in place and be removed at random to allow any water out.

Interesting, i think i may do a mod on mine by placing some fine plastic mesh behind them so it still allows air in and out but restricts water ingress, thanks again.
 

Pull out the grommet, if any water is present it will drain away. Punch or drill a tiny hole in the grommet and replace, this allows any water to drain away.
