Side window replacement

Post by shaky »

Hi all,

Now I know this will have been asked a thousand times so apologies but I've looked in the Wiki and googled and just get adverts for window seals.

I am repairing the side windows (Side and rear) frames and there is plenty of info on this but there seems precious little on getting the glass back in. I have an early Devon so it is factory windows not a panel van. Factory seals seem to be available (No chrome insert).

I've never put any glass back in so and looking to see if there are any guides, Youtubes etc. I've found one for Panel van seals but not for a factory type window.

Anyone got any tips.

Thanks,

Paul.

Hi Shaky
Combe valley campers have one on you tube.
I did mine the other day following this.
Good luck
Prepare for the worst but hope for the best

Thanks for the link.

However, I think that shows you how to use the H-channel window seal that you use with panel van windows.

I've also been told to use a piece of rope to fit factory windows in a similar manner to windscreens...

I'll do a bit more googling!

Hi,
Read a long time ago that using string/cord for windows is only for the windscreen, not side windows. I have always managed without.
Look on Seals Direct web site and they have a video, Youtube I think, on how to do it. The H type rubbers are called Claytonite rubber.
Any probs message me.
Don.

String it in, I’ve done hundreds , same as fitting a front screen, not as in the Combe valley link

Put the seal in the glass
Run string into the groove , leaving a ft of string (3mm) at least either end

Push the glass straight in

Get an assistant to lean in the glass , not to hard as you won’t be able to pull the string

Pull the string , (Doing big circles to help walk the string otherwise you can cut damage the seal ) Around the window Flipping the seal over the window frame edge , gently pushing all the time

Once the seal is fully over , bang the window ( not to hard) to seat the seal

When the whole rubber is over the lip
