Front Screen Rubber, removal, repair?

I need to remove the front screen to carry out a repair to the lower corner.

The rubber is one piece,  I want to cut it to reduce the possibility of breaking the screen but can I replace the rubber with the type that has a bead or should I just get Auto glass to refit it?

The lower corner needs a small section replacing, has anyone carried out this type of repair and how did they do it?

My windscreen was replaced a few years back, and I remember how relieved the fitter was that the original rubber seal was still in good condition as he said getting a replacement would have made things more difficult, not sure if that was a cost issue on their part or getting a new one would have been an issue as they do tend to mould to your vehicle.  There have been a few recent threads regarding repairing the corners as they are prone to rust, do a search of the site and you should come up with some info.

Thanks chaps,  I have ordered a lower windscreen repair section from Brickwerks but regards the windscreen rubber I was told that trying to save it and removing the screen will most likely end up with the screen breaking.

I’ve removed lots and lots of windows and windscreens, I never cut good rubbers and haven’t broken a window in 30 years

I have removed front screens that have the two part seals (with a bead) but not one that has a single seal type rubber as currently fitted to the van.

What method do you use to remove the screen and save the seal?

Couple of flat blade screwdriver, push the rubber over the inner lip whilst gently pushing the screen, they aren’t very tight in there

I have found the windscreen with new seal was the easiest one to fit on the camper . Easily done on your own , even easier with assistance.

The existing rubber is only a few years old and appears to be good but Brickwerks and Vewib both do seals (though not sure which is better), Vewib is more expensive and has moulded corners.

I have bit of thinking to do regards remove screen by cutting the existing seal or try and remove and save the existing seal.

I assume that removing the screen without scrapping the seal is done from the inside and prising the seal at the top corners or have I got that wrong?

Used this method three times with success. Very simple, and ending with a firm push against top of screen from inside releases the screen.
