Hello (first post) and sliding door lock advice...

Hi,

I'm Jon and new to the forums... My family and I have just bought a T25 which is a 1980 air-cooled 2.0 CU model. I'm having trouble getting the sliding door to stay locked and the only way at the minute is to stick a screwdriver into the internal lock toggle to hold it down. It won't lock from outside. Not really sure if there's a quick DIY fix or who to take it to that might be able to sort it.

Thanks in advance... :D

Does the key turn in the lock when locking from outside?

I would try taking the door card off and removing the handle, then you can see if the lock is moving all the way across when you lock it from inside.

Mine had a problem and I found that I was not closing the door firm enough to allow all sections slot into place.  Have you tried closing it from the outside not using the handle but having a firm hold on the panel and then pushing and sliding into shut position.  Then from the inside see if the locking bolt works.  It is a mechanical function so something may have worn.

Thank you for the replies... It's a pain not to have a proper lock on your van!

Mechanically the door is running well... We've got the knack of closing it with gentle pressure on the panel. And it's smooth 🤠

The key turns in the lock okay... It just doesn't stay locked and seems to slip when you use the handle! I'll get the door card off and post a pic 👍 I'm learning that you just have to get stuck in with these vans 😬

Hi, did you get anywhere with this? Sounds like I have the exact same issue!

Hi, I've not really had chance to look yet. The door can be locked from inside and I've found it a nifty work around using the holes in the top of the sliding door and a cable lock

I used to have a lot of trouble on a 1981 slider lock.
I found that the screw holding the outside handle was working loose.
If I remember right it could be tightened too much and stopped it turning.
In the end I put a hole in the card so it can be tightened whenever.

I've found the same bodge at the top of the door using a metal rod...

Let me know if you figure it out!
