Is it possible to adjust the clearance on a sportscraft seat swivel?

There is a big nut but unsure if loosening this will do the trick and still be safe.

Fitted one years ago but just fitted soundproofing and carpet on wheel arch and now there isn’t enough clearance to use without damaging the carpet
