Under the front seats, drawers?

Post by rollercoaster »

I see that drawers are available from CC,
but I am using the space for electrics,
charger, fusebox and battery protection.

Dont really want to cut back the front lip,
as I know its there as part of the design for strength.
(or is it to stop things sliding out when braking?)

Anyhow I have swivels on which limits the access to underseat,
so I would like to make "drawers" with the electrics fixed to,
so that I can access fuses and so on.

..taking off the metal thats obstructing the front access.
Been done? Comments?

Mitigating is that the very solid swivel is very solidly bolted,
which gives it a whole new additional strength..

About 18 years ago I cut the front out of the passsenger side one and put a door on it , no Ill effect . Didn’t bother with a drawer as I stored maps ( see told you it was years ago !) in there
I did it again on my current van , and keep site books and instruction manuals in there .
Making the door the right shape took some furtling and getting magnetic catches that did work so things didn’t fly out under heavy braking was trial and error

So it’s not a new idea .....

Thanks, reassuring..
Yes that is probably more dangerous than loss of structural strength,
the thought of loads of stuff flying out under the pedals!
I had wondered about ideas for doors..
but what I would like is basically a drawer that only slides out so far,
tethered, and the wiring attached, various electrical items fixed to it.
It would have a drawer front, thats the size of the hole,
and it could be a "very high friction" item,
so it would only come out when forcibly asked to..

I do like maps! OS fit well in the glove box or on the dash..

Just waiting for the engineers report though..
(chime in please mr Bullet)
For now I will have to remove the seat and swivel to access,
no rush, think twice, cut once!

I would want a mechanical deadbolt type lock rather than friction if it were on the drivers seat .
I don’t have a swivel on the drivers side , which is where all my electronics live .

old picture, I have changed battery charger and solar charge controller since I took this
