Sliding door issues

Post by mike9009 »

Hi

We have what I believe is an early sliding door. (1982 air cooled)

The sliding door struggles to open and I have to manually pull it at the rear to get it free. So it pops open enough to get my fingers in, but no further. Now when closing it sometimes seems to hit a dead stop and does not close. Normally when closing it needs a good shove and sometime a 'body bash' to get to finally close. Essentially it struggles at about half an inch on opening or closing.

Not sure where the issue is, but I have cleaned and lubed the rear hinge area which has improved it slightly but not solved it.

I have searched for a solution on here (and elsewhere) but cannot find the solution.... Help!

TIA. Mike

It seems to be catching okay. It gets 'stuck' about an inch before closing.

I have some recollection of this happening before, so need to investigate again. I will update if I solve it.

Thanks

There is a little plastic guide thing on the middle rail that guides the wheel around a curve just as it shuts. This had gone on mine and caused similar problems.
