Adjust cab door height

Post by Richardspain »

The driver’s door doesn’t quite fit and the plastic cover to the vent above the wheel arch rubs on the paintwork when we close it. Is there any (easy) way to slightly raise or tilt the door so it fits better? I have tried moving the four bolts that hold the hinge but it doesn’t seem to affect it. It is not bad enough to warrant a big body shop job, it’s just a bit annoying. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Adjusting bolts only moves door in and out top and bottom. You need to adjust lower part of door with spacers.
Did this recently. I took door off completely. Then added two slim washers between lower hinge and mount plates, using a touch of silicone to hold each washer in place.

Thanks. So you added the washers on the door pillar between the pillar and the hinge?

Check the lower hinge hasn’t broken away from the door, the door must be sagging quite a lot to be that low

Yes. Sorry l meant top hinge. Not bottom. Behind top A pillar mount. A bit fiddly and really needs two pairs of hands

I had the same on mine, I cut a shim from some sheet metal and cut out/ground out two slots to make a sort of fork that could be slid in between the hinge and pillar without having to completely remove hinge bolts and maybe the door, less fiddly and also means you can do it without needing and extra pair of hands

if your gaps are ok then remove one screw form each hinge, note the position of the threaded hole within the larger opening , is there room above to lift the door .if so then loosen the remaining 2 screws and lift the whole door up, nip up and check, repeat as required,

Thanks everyone for the help. 2 washers between the hinge and door post solved it.

Useful to see this thread, I’ve got a related but slightly different problem in that I want to move the cab door forward a bit to close the gap at the front and help the seal seat better on the A-Frame. Is washers between the back of the frame and the hinge on both top and bottom the way to do that, or is there another way if I wanted to get 3mm say?

Only option is new door seals really. 3mm is a lot. Or a pair of whistle stops. Does the door suffer from excessive wind noise?
