Rust & the 'Ministry of Transport' test
..I had to Google the MOT acronym!
Q? In order to pass an MOT what areas of the bus need to be structurally safe, my steps into the cabin are shot for example. Any nice diagrams or advice?

Steps shoudn't be a fail, maybe an advisory.
On my previous van I pop-rivetted some ally sheet over the holes in the steps, no problems at MOT time.

Re: Rust & the 'Ministry of Transport' test
If you cut the rust away tidy the edge of the hole and paint it then it's not a rusty hole but a hole, this just makes it easier for the MOT person to pass it.
really?

Good idea Paul.that should work for non structural points.
I wish I'd done this with the whole van, then I'd have a hole van.

It can with reason be in structural points too.
If I had say a lpg filler point drilled into the panel within 12 inches of the rear trailing arm it would not fail an mot.

Re: Rust & the 'Ministry of Transport' test
Oh yeah, well spotted. So it should be called the ‘Department for Transport’ test.
