I recently bought a generic seat swivel for my passenger seat. I've got to weld the swivel down to the wheel well and then tack the runners onto the swivel.
That's no problem, but getting the seat runners off in the first place certainly is.
What's the best way to remove the runners?
The thought of drilling the spot welds leaves me in a sweat! I've got some cobalt spot weld remove ing drills, but I'm pretty sure I'll turn the bus into a leaky hole ridden mess.
Is there another way to do it? Chisel start, then a hacksaw blade.
Any ideas?

Re: Removing seat runners
What sort of swivel are you thinking of fitting ? Some of them are bolt in to the runners. If you do need to remove the runners drill them out with the spot weld drill bits, i use a small drill bit to start with , just enough for the spike of the spot weld drill bit to sit in , stops it from slipping when you start. Then the skill is to judge how deep to go, there comes a point when you can see a change in colour from the piece you are drilling through and the base you dont want to drill through.

It's one of these babies.
Sadly it's definately remove the runners and weld them to the swivel.
I'll brave the drill! I am really looking forward to getting the seat turning. It's going to totally change the bus interior and how we use it.

If you jam a wedge under it will pop up before you go through both.

Re: Removing seat runners
I used these for the bulk head removal in my old van and last year the passenger seat runner. Cuts around the spot weld leaving the material from the runner standing proud which can be ground flat. You need to get your eye in to judge the right depth though.

Re: Removing seat runners
Just remember though, the seat runner steel is a lot thicker than the arch steel it is welded to, so doesn't take much to go too far
