Thanks Clift, think it was the right thing not to go with the 50g nose weight bar I was looking at based on what you've said. Safety first with a family on board.

Fitting Tow Bar

Post by clift_d »

I'm not sure whether going slightly above the plated nose weight presents that much risk to overall vehicle safety, as I know some on the forum successfully transport motor scooters on adapted towbar racks without issue. Although, whether an insurer might view it the same way is worth considering. In any case it would probably be sensible to avoid fitting a lightweight towbar if you think you might want it to carry quite a bit of load.

If you really want to transport a lot of weight then you might want to look at a specialist motorcycle rack like the one Bernd Jaeger sells which, with suspension modifications, can be certified to carry upto 250kg.

Picked myself up a tow bar off a Westfalia from a fellow forum member and in the process of giving it a good clean up before painting it.

Has a couple of stamps/markings on and wondered if anyone knows what they refer to. On the underside of the main bar it has NR 07:0798 in white lettering and on the nose bar it has a wavy line followed by M4075 stamped in the metal.

Anyone any ideas what these tell me about the bar, if anything. Cheers.
