Painting headlining
Hi all,
Was just wondering if anyone out there has ever painted there headlining? I have some bad water stains on mine that I cannot remove so thought maybe I could spray paint it with some sort of fabric paint. Anyone got any experience or thoughts on this idea?
Cheers

Re: Painting headlining
Never tried a headlining, but if it,s vinyl it should be possible. I,m planning on doing mine the winter. I would be cautious though of using the cheap sprays. I've recently done the interior of my Triumph Stag - from blue to black - with a vinyl recolouring kit from a firm called BESPOKE LEATHERING. It looks as good as new.

Re: Painting headlining
Evening,
I need to freshen up some of the vinyl above the windows as it's looking a bit old and has a few dark glue stains on it. I'll either replace it or like you re-paint it, needs to be a sort of cream/beige colour though. I've seen a few coloured sprays on line.
A few years back I re-sprayed the stretch material under the seats/around the battery boxes from brown to black using Autoglym black dye spray and it did an excellent job. Worked well on the rubber cab mat as well.

Cheers guys,
I found a few vinyl dyes I can use on line, will let you know how it goes when I get the van back from having its new panels and welding done.
Cheers for the info.

Re: Painting headlining
I painted the headlining on my Morris Minor many years ago with watered down paint. It worked fine and is still in situ. I think I used 50/50 white spirit and paint. If you want to try this I would do a small test area first.

what about the flocking inside the pop top. I hate it and want to rub it down and glue carpet and insulation or similar in there: anyone done similar?

Yeah I did that, worked out really nice. Didn't bother with insulation, just stretch carpet

Re: Painting headlining
Use wire wool and wear gloves.. And replace gloves again and again when they melt. And goes without saying this is not a job for when you've just had your nails done
