Vacation then hammerite ?

Post by sternal »

Hello

Long time since been on here, I'm going to treat some rust on the chassis of caravan so will use Vactan (best stuff in the world !) is it okay to stick hammerite on after for more protection to the elements ?

cheers in advance

I would say yes to the Hammerite, I have used it with good results. Now though, I have a big tin of (matching VW L90D - Pastel white) Rustoluem, so I use that. Not sure how much "better" it is at protecting metal against rust, but at it says on the tin it's good  and it's the correct colour for my van.

I've read don't sand the vactan as you will remove the protective 'plastic' layer. So I guess prep area first and then vactan then paint?

Hey Ghost,
Which supplier did you get your L90D rustoleum from? Do you spray or brush it on?

Thanks

Avenue Coatings, I got good service and price from them. I only use it for "touching up" stuff like in the engine bay etc, so it gets brushed on, slightly thinned with White Spirit. Brush marks disappear very well, but it does take a couple of days to harden (depending on temp of course).

Depends on where I am painting, the temperature at the time and how long the paint has been in the small jar I decant it into. I thin it until it is about the same consistency as single cream (and being L90D, it looks like single cream too!)

That's one of those examples where your brain expects to see a certain word and does so, even though the word on the page is different. (as in, I hadn't noticed it  )
