Window rubbers
Need to remove the window rubbers on my van ,ie side windows.I was wondering what I can use to help restore them without having to buy new ones. What I was thinking was to wash them in hot soapy water and then after drying wipe them down with oil ..
Is there a product on the market that I could use to restore these like a vinyl or rubber care product.Auto glym do a vinyl and rubber spray but I was wondering if there was a specific product I can use for these rubbers?

Re: Window rubbers
Have you managed to successfully remove them without the use of a knife?
Why would the glass be anything other than half full?

I haven't started to remove them yet ,weather I use a knife or not I don't know although it sounds like a good idea
I think I will treat them after a wash with auto glym vinyl and rubber spray hopefully this will help

If you use a knife, you'll not be reusing them!!

Re: Window rubbers
I have used the Autoglym vinyl & rubber stuff on my van, but it's only good on rubber that's not cracked or perished. Cracked or perished ones need to be replaced.
I use the Autoglym stuff on the new rubbers now, as I want to keep them looking good, and it cleans off any polish that gets smudged onto the rubber when doing the paintwork.
(I even use the stuff on the tyre sidewalls as they look better when black & shiny)

Re: Window rubbers
Is it even possible to remove an old screen without cutting the seal?

Re: Window rubbers
Possible but certainly risky.. Not worth it - better off fitting new seal. Finally I know of nothing that restores old rubber, at least not for long. Old rubbers also bleed on to paint (particularly Rustoleum).

Re: Window rubbers
The original window rubbers are ok ,its the sliding conversion window that bulging the rubbers out at both sides and leaking. This is still in good shape it just needs taken out washed in warm water and replaced. The fiberglass roof conversion ones ,these I plan to replace as they have cracked.

Re: Window rubbers
Given that the glass is flat and the side slightly curved, Its going to bulge out.

Re: Window rubbers
Then just a little silicone might seal it
I was not relishing the thought of removing and reinstalling it

Re: Window rubbers
Roofing mastic tends to work better and is available in black from places like B&Q. You just use a gun to apply it.
