Westy poptop transplant...NOW DONE!

Post by LeeME3 »

Ok so the fitting of the Westy roof to the Tintop is underway and so far so good. Couple questions though...

1. Does anyone know is the roof double or single skinned and if double roughly what gap between the layers?

2. I know that working out where to fix the rear brackets/hinges is going to be 'interesting'....don't suppose anyone has the measurements or a template or maybe a kind existing owner could take some close up pics with a ruler layed next to it?

Thanks in advance, and I'm taking plenty of pics so if all goes well I'll post up a how to. If all goes badly I'll post the pics of how not to!

All done bar the internal trimming. An interesting and at times challenging job but within the skills of a competent DIYer I'd say. Will post a how to when I've sorted the pics and got back from hols.

Meanwhile here's a few before, during, after shots...

Oh lord no not the full roof transplant. I have managed to get the Westy bed working above the rear roof section though which is rather pleasing!

I am a garage door installer competent with grinders drills etc did you but your roof new? Have to put in stabilisers? Or just cut between the two roof supports in your panel van? Looks great :ok
