Gowesty upper door lip seal - alternative?

Post by ash1293 »

Trying to reduce wind noise and looks like the gowesty upper door lip seal may help.

Does anyone know of a uk source or a similar universal seal that may provide a similar function?

Ask campervanculture. They are UK distributors of GW stuff.
But as I remember there is some EU manufacturer, so other vendors may have it.

Cheers, was all excited after seeing how cheap gowesty sets were……

Heritage are near £30 a side!

Think I may need to look through a seals catalogue to see if there’s anything similar and cheaper.

I used something from sealsdirect, I’ll get a look at it in the next day or two when I’m next at the van. I think it was from their range of “edge trim with side seal”.

And it did cut wind noise effectively…

Found a couple of possibilities.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Large-Leaf- ... 635-2958-0

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Large-Leaf-F ... 635-2958-0

A quick measure of the gap is around 10mm,

So the second one should fit with little/no compression.
The first one I reckon the fin would compress back giving a tighter seal?

My camper has these upper seals. Cant say it has made any notable difference. My two previous campers didnt have them so l can make a direct comparision.
I would suggest making sure the wraparound door seals are in excellent order first. Or get a better stereo :D

The Heritage seal is long enough to do both sides, also re wind/road noise are your step rubbers in place properly, mine were old and hardened to the point where they would not clip into the holes. I have just fitted new ones and with the holes properly sealed the noise has reduced :ok

I’ve ordered a length of the first to try.

Wind noise is definitely in that area, cab steps have new genuine mats, doors new seals.

It’s only at certain road speed and I’m pretty sure it’s where the door seal distorts slightly in the radius.

Ok, the first one is not really any good, the section to clip over door edge is just too bulky to work with existing door seal.

I have been able to fit a section on the radius of door where I think the noise is coming from.

If this solves it (long drive tomorrow) then I can just investigate a slimmer version to fit the full length for good measure.
