Foam Seat Bases
Anybody know where I can get replacement foam seat bases for my T3 front seats?
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Foam Seat Bases
It depends on which type you have, early or late. Early style 251881375 is available, not from vw so maybe repro, http://www.vw-t3-bus-shop.de" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; has them. But if you are after the later style 255881375A, they are not available new anymore.

Re: Foam Seat Bases
Thanks for you help
Yeah I only now found out that there are two different sizes.
I believe I have the smaller size of the two, do you know if that means they are the earlier or later ones? I have a feeling they are the later ones.

Re: Foam Seat Bases
OK so it seems the different in the two are not based on age (kinda) but more on type
251881375 - Standard no swivel seats
255881375A - Larger Swivel seats
So standard no swivel seats use the 251881375 whatever the year.
Hope this helps

Re: Foam Seat Bases
No thats not correct. The early narrow style is 251881375, the later wider style is 255881375A, the swivel style is based on the early narrow style but has less height to the foam is 251881375A. I have a pair of late caravelle seats apart at the moment so i can read the part number underneath.

Re: Foam Seat Bases
Arr OK, this is the email I had from Brickwerks:
I am glad you gave me the number. The difference is not early and late. But swivelling and static seats.
Late Caravelle’s had a different seat padding.
Please see the list below
Basically what is the part number for a standard seat base?
I have found this diagram showing the seat depth for new covers, I have measured mine and the seat depth is 49cm
Any more guidance would be much appreciated

Re: Foam Seat Bases
Those diagrams are a bit confusing, i have the covers off my late caravelle seats and the seat base cover front to back is 67 cm, thats putting a tape measure from the front piping edge to the rear edge that tucks under the rear of the seat base. How did you measure yours ? If you want new foam the only ones available new are the basic smaller early style seat foam which is 251881375. Not from vw so maybe repro.

Re: Foam Seat Bases
So the diagram showing 2 seat base lengths is wrong. Leaving aside the caravelle, the difference is that the swivel seat base is less wide than the non swivel seat (2cm approx).
Perhaps the long seat base is the caravelle. Only?

Re: Foam Seat Bases
The swivel seat foam is based on the early small seat foam but is shallower in height to compensate foe the swivel mechanism. the longer seat foam is used on higher spec vehicles. I have a new swivel seat foam for sale if you need one. The larger seat foam is also available again.

Re: Foam Seat Bases
What type of seat /cover , There’s a few different ones
Re: Foam Seat Bases
Multisi, what do you mean by higher spec vehicles? Do you mean the larger seat is a captains seat with arms?
Re: Foam Seat Bases
The original small foam base was fitted to vans that had the vinyl basket weave seat covers, early vans, basic panel vans, single and double cabs. These basic seats were also originally fitted with the early backrest padding that some people complain as being uncomfortable, the caravelle had a better more robust backrest padding .Later seat with vinyl covers on small foam bases seem to have the better backrest padding fitted. Seats with the larger foam base had other types of seat cover materials like tweed or velour, these seats are basically the same spec as captains seats but without the armrests.
