G12+ Coolant on Ebay. Good Deal from GSF?

Post by maxstu »

If this hasn't been already mentioned earlier, GSF is selling a shed load G12 on eBay. Is this a competitive price and correct spec for our beloved vans?

Correct stuff competitive no. Euro Car Parts long life stuff meets G12+ and worked out at well under £20 (£18 I think) for 5 litres.

I haggled a bit in local branch, remarking that GSF had let me down on several occasions recently with wrong parts sent, some falling apart and some common spares deleted from catalogue altogether (which unfortunately was all true) and they gave me a trade discount which brought the cost down even further. In fact, VW commercial seems to beat GSF on price for many items these days and I find a proper chat often helps secure a good working relationship as well as better pricing. Things seemed to go downhill rapidly after GSF changed its website but I've since found the competition is often much better both in terms of quality and price. GSF ate up some smaller VW custom outlets over the years but now seems to be allowing that side to dwindle away. Its a great shame as I wouldn't go anywhere else at one time but the advent of chocolate bearings and the like forced me to look afresh at the whole spares thing.

Not really tested Euro Car Parts on the rarer stuff but they beat everyone else on batteries and most sundries. and claim to be able to get most stuff on order. Theres also Nyanza up my way (family run business) and although they cost slightly more, the quality is excellent and its there the same or next day if ordered. Very helpful staff.

http://www.nyanzaautoparts.co.uk/ - online catalogue not always helpful but fine on phone orders.

Yes I think it is. My can wasn't opaque - will check label. Great price either way. I bought two cans as I intend to change water pump and stat this year. When you tot up single bottles, it makes no economic sense to buy them.

P.S. - Just checked. Yes thats the stuff - Triple QX Longlife red - meets G12+. contains Organic Acid Inhibitor and free from nitrates. Works out around £3.51 a litre instead of the usual £5+ malarky.

Excellent - just had a Euro car parts open up a couple of miles away.
I shall stop in and pick some up as I am pretty sure she's overdue a fluid flush and change.

So I've picked up 10 litres of the Triple QX stuff from Euro Car Parts, along with a Bosch oil filter. Sump plug washer was thrown in without me asking
Guess what fun and games I 've got planned for the weekend!
