Had some problems with GSF oil seals for diff for Golf and had to do the work again with original VW diff seals

Some of the cheaper exhaust silencers from GSF had problems and returned

Don't wast money on the cheaper oils now stocked by GSF /Mill Auto and source quality Castrol / Fuchs / etc from independant oil/fuel suppliers (Opie Oils) much cheaper than Halfords rip off prices. If you go to the hassle of oil changes use quality oils.

2E2 carb needs vacuum hoses and GSF hose lasted a year - but diesel waste gate hose has lasted 10 years on the 2E2 carb

Hi there,

For what it's worth i put X2 upper ball joints in back in Oct when i re bushed the front suspention on my bus... Got them from GSF and the rubbers are FUBAR already...
Don't have the info on the manufacturer i'm afraid but it puts me off using anything from GSF again... A case of "buy cheap, pay twice" i guess...

All the best, Mark.

Hi guys

I just popped in here to do some research on rear shocks as 1 of mine is shot at. Firstly would you recommend changing both? Secondly best place to buy them from? From this I'm guessing brickwerks, Which are bilstein and are £117.60 a pair?

Any thoughts much appreciated!

Cheers

Rich

Gemo are OE.
Gemo made the cables for VW.
We buy Gemo cables because thats who VW had to make them for them.
If you have a problem with a Gemo cable, it's you not the cable.

It is definitely not just us - the diameter is very slightly too large to enable insertion.

Quite funny as earlier today we took a gemo cable and trial fitted it to a brand new Vw backplate and it slid straight in. We even took a video. Like I said we do not have problems.
I suspect that your backplates are corroded and swollen, if you cannot get the cables in then you need to address the corrosion to the inside of the "tube" of the backplate and not just blame the part.
Not at work at the moment but we'll post the video soon.

Luckily Michael has the video clip on his phone and has just uploaded it to Youtube...
I reckon i'll have to give him a bonus for his dedication.

The first thing I did when it wouldn't go in was check for corrosion - there was none present such as could cause a narrowing of the orifice. I ran a rat's tail through to check and there were no rust flakes or significant detritus. It was far easier to reduce the diameter of the plastic than to reamer out the socket.

We buy them as they made them for VW.
They have a reasonably complete catalogue and we can buy all our T3 cables from the same place.
They even make cables for the 16" syncro!
We use them in the workshop with no problems.
Im not dismissing what you say, but what else can we do?
Who else can we buy cables from that offers the same range and quality?
As you can see from the video with brand new parts they fit together if anything a little loosley.
Im not sure what else we can do quality control wise either?
We fit them and dont have problems, we dont hear any feedback from customers until we read something like this, so we've looked into it and to us there is no problem.
If you want to try some more ill happily send you a set gratis.

I was quite happy just to take off the extra 0.5mm of diameter - as my original post said I measured the one that came off and the hole at 12mm and the replacement was 12.5mm, presumably it is a manufacturing error such as the plastic being removed from the mould too early allowing expansion.
Nothing you can do or need to do as I see it as it only took a couple of minutes lapping with a strip of abrasive to rectify. :ok

Genuine Vw and gemo cables are the same thing.
Maybe the backplates have changed at some point?
Can't explain.

Avoid Topran header tank

Post by Pootle »

I bought a Topran header tank with included pressure cap (dalek). They worked fine together, but a genuine VW pressure cap doesn't fit well on it and easily cross-threads, then leaks...
