Auto Gearbox Engine Conversion

Post by Dueller »

So i've been thinking after all my trials and tribulations of rebuilding my engine and finding a good used Auto box, see the other thread re my Caravelle, of now doing an engine conversion onto my AutoBox as its pretty awesome to drive, way better than my Doka

Question is has anyone else done this before? What engine did they use?

I came across a South African conversion to an autobox using a Toyota engine but only one mention of a Subaru auto conversion

Im wondering about the kick down and throttle relationship as it'll probably be throttle body so the linking of them together may be a challenge to get the right shift points

any ideas welcome

Afternoon
As Mocki says, we've got the original 3 speed Auto paired to a new EJ2.5 Subaru engine with the rjes adaptor plate and in my experience I can honestly say dont worry about kick down....... you wont need it or indeed use it.
There's a huge amount of torque in 3rd gear which pulls from ~40 to 70mph effortlessly and without too much on the juice pedal.
Ours is also a hightop and pretty well loaded and I can only remember it dropping into 2nd at low speed overtaking on a hill. Never had to use kick down.
Would 100% look at adding an oil cooler to the Box as the original is tiny and with the extra grunt I'd imagine quite inadequate ?
