I think an after market early jx silencer now has the outlet flange mounted the same as the late jx silencer.

Re: Stainless Steel Tailpipe Flange Fitting Orientation
Hi Cecil
Thank you for looking into alternatives- thats a great help.
Today I had another look underneath at the exhaust system and tailpipe fitted to my 1989 T3 Westfalia 1.6TD (JX)
The exhaust box has 2x brackets welded at both ends, which fixes their positioning, the brackets are then bolted onto a chassis member.
The is no way of turning the exhaust system to change the orientation of the tailpipe flange fixing.
Real shame too, cos I spent a bit of time Sunday morning polishing up the SS tailpipe before I attempted to fit it to the van.
Attached a few pics taken today, showing the differences

Re: Stainless Steel Tailpipe Flange Fitting Orientation
Hi Cecil
Yes, I think your right- this appears to have the same orientation as the item I purchased from "ash1293".
I think from the pics I've downloaded, you can see it doesn't fit as it should.

Re: Stainless Steel Tailpipe Flange Fitting Orientation
I am going to stick my head above the parapet, but would it fit a LHD van with the exhaust muffler on the other side with different orientation. in advance/

Nope, RHD/LHD have same orientation of drivetrain etcTONYT25T25 wrote:I am going to stick my head above the parapet, but would it fit a LHD van with the exhaust muffler on the other side with different orientation. in advance/
I can see he problem, and know how I’d fix but involves a donor flange or one from your old and a bit of welding. Pronto what you wanted to hear.

Im not a trader and normally I would sell as seen, the photos etc were clear on listing for buyers to see & check suitability.davidwalter44 wrote:Hi ash1293

However I’m happy to refund, minus my postage costs, on the receipt of returned parcel. Don’t think I can be fairer than that.

Look on the bright side, the stainless used on these tailpipes will not stay bright and shiney unless polished weekly, so you can save yourself the chore

Hi "ash1293" - James
Thank you for agreeing for me to return the SS Tailpipe, for which I paid £20 incl P&P.
The first message I sent to you (private message), I clearly asked wheather the tailpipe was suitable for my T3 1989 Westfalia 1.6TD (JX) ??
To which I didn't receive a reply or acknowleged I asked the question, principly it was ignored.
Having seen an Ebay Ad that "Cecil" posted earlier on this thread, showing the part no. you quoted 068251185, it clearly states at the top of the ad this part is for pre-"87 1.6TD JX diesel. Given that my T3 1.6TD is a 1989- it was never gonna fit
I will be incurring my own costs in returning the item to you, I think we both need to bare some costs on both our parts and put this down to experience. I dont see why I should bare the costs for 2x lots of postage.
You will receive back the Shiny SS tailpipe which you can contine to sell on to someone whos vehicle it fits.
Regards

Interesting as this conversation is, shouldn't it be conducted by private messages. Maybe not my position to say so, but could be resolved better that way.

Re: Stainless Steel Tailpipe Flange Fitting Orientation
Sell it on yourself is the obvious answer instead of airing it all on a public forum. Either that or chuck it in the spares corner of the shed. ( we all have a collection like that )
Personally I can't see that you need a new one - yours looks perfectly serviceable from the pics.

Not going to get into a tit for tat argument but to clarify your initial message said
“Would be interested to fit my ‘89 Westfalia 1.6t d (JX)”
This was not a question of will it fit, you showed the intention to buy.
I’ve not acted in a dishonest way in any shape or form, as with any vehicle of this age, as many of us know parts may have been replaced at various times and may no longer be standard and it’s always worth checking before buying if you are not prepared to take the gamble.
I’ve sold before on here and always tried to give honest descriptions with photos and generally tried to price keenly as I’d rather someone get something at a sensible price rather than paying a scene premium.
I think I’m being generous in offering a refund, quite why I should refund postage I’m not sure.
E D I T: to clarify it was listed at £20, however I offered to sell at £20 inc courier for you. Courier cost was £3.
I have continued discussion on forum after the post for help/clarification in order to remain open an transparent.
