Help! Bowden cable snapped..
After dismantling the sliding door lock components, it appears the Bowden cable has snapped at the rear end, right near where the circlip connects.
Are these available new, is it a used part? It's an early door.
Coinciding with a house move, of course!
Cheers
John

Re: Help! Bowden cable snapped..
the early one is adjustable isn't it, has a threaded section and adjuster, there is a version for the kombi's and velles 253 843 951 nla, seems vans had a different multipart one which is nla so depends what your van was originally maybe, the 253 part seems pretty ubiquitous though
late one is fixed length 911mm part number 251 843 721 B, I have several used ones in stock

The part number is 251 843 719 if you can find one.
I had to make a new one with some clutch cable solder less ends.

Re: Help! Bowden cable snapped..
thanks for the info guys. yes it is adjustable at one end (the sleeve has a threaded end locator at the front).
Could this be welded on? i dont know what the materials are mind?
otherwise might have to try a breaker..

Re: Help! Bowden cable snapped..
Could you not drill a hole in the end bit, use a grub screw to hold the cable?

Re: Help! Bowden cable snapped..
if the ring is 8mm then ebay 'bowden cable fittings' grub screw end comes up if not then try to drill the broken bit out and solder with blowtorch and using ' bakers fluid' flux, neutralise well after soldering with washing soda or corrosion will occur, I seem to remember ' bakers fluid' is hydrocloric acid

Re: Help! Bowden cable snapped..
I don't think a grub screw would grip tight enough onto the cable inner, with it not being a woven cable (it's a solid rod). I'll examine the end I've got tomorrow and see if there's any rod in it (ie if it snapped or just let go). Thanks again fellas

Re: Help! Bowden cable snapped..
Just got this back in and sorted- a friend welded the eyelet back on without any dramas. If it were to break again, i think id go with a clutchcable/bike cable with the right ends on it, as others seem to have done. its a straight run across the door so wouldnt be hard.
plenty of grease INSIDE the bowden cable inner has helped a lot with strain on the handle, much easier to use now.
Happiness is an open door
