Fast tick over once warm.

Post by molar38 »

I have a 1986 1.9 petrol van with a pierburg 2E3 carb. It has recently developed a very irritating fault and I’m hoping that someone will point me where to look for a cure. It starts and runs perfectly on the choke but the revs seem to increase once the van has warmed up. It used to run on choke for 6 to 8 minutes and then revs would settle to a normal tick over ( I don’t have a Rev counter so I only know by what sounds right or wrong) but over the last couple of months the revs have increased so that after a 10 mile motorway run to work the engine is ticking over about a third as fast as it should be. I can get the revs to drop if I remove the air inlet trunking from the top of the carb and using a screwdriver lightly push on the fast idle can it clicks down and the revs return to normal but as soon as the accelerator pedal is touched it moves again and revs increase. The mechanism is clean and well lubricated. Any ideas on what I should be adjusting or looking at. Thanks.
