Re: E10 and bodywork restoration recommendations
Reading previous posts and other information online, the main issue appears to be that it rots/breaks down the rubber fuel pipes/hoses from older vehicles unless they have been updated to deal with Ethanol E10, there are also issues of it breaking down soldered joints.

Re: E10 and bodywork restoration recommendations
The other thing that people need may need to start thinking about, is that as the percentage of ethanol in fuel goes up, then the more that fuel tends to be hydroscopic, i.e. it has a greater tendency to absorb water from the atmosphere. This can lead to issues with water getting into the fuel system of vehicles that don’t get used regularly and which are left to stand for long periods.

E10 fuel- what needs replacing?!
Much E10 hysteria on the internet, but other counties have been running it for longer than us.
Two issues appear to be its effect on rubber and the tendency for it to hold onto water and promote corrosion.
Rubber bits:
Fuel lines will need replacing (already done with BW 100% ethanol proof magic pipe).
Mechanical pump rubber diaphragm - no longer an issue as switched over to electric pump after a run of dud mechanical pumps.
Accelerator pump - presumably will deteriorate faster and need more regular replacement.
Is the vapour equally aggressive, so do the breather pipes on top of the tank need replacing, and if so what about the bungs they go in? Similarly does the fuel filler need doing, and if so, what with as I don't think I have seen a 'safe' version.
Corrosion:
Either use it, or pop a fuel drier in. Seems reasonably low risk.
Anyone got any thoughts (or direct experience?)

Re: E10 and bodywork restoration recommendations
Just been to my local Morrisons to put some fuel in my camper, only petrol available was E10 as marked at the pumps, spoke to staff inside before filling up to see if they had any E5, lady said that the new fuel does not come into force until September. She had the warning stickers next to her ready to put on the pumps.

Re: E10 Petrol
I checked on https://check-vehicle-compatibility-e10 ... Volkswagen & it seems the T25's are ok:
VolkswagenWith the exception to those models listed below, which used the first generation FSI engines, E10 is cleared for use in all Volkswagen petrol engine vehicles.

E10 Fuel Prep
With the looming changes to E10 happening soon, I need a bit of advice. where i am (Orkney), we dont have access to super unleaded, which will be staying low ethanol content, so i will be forced to use E10 (or not drive the van...). Basically, are the ethanol fuel protection additives work, or will i need to start replacing rubbers/seals to suit the new fuel. Just Just wondering what people think, or what will need replaced?
I also have a 1985 mini which will also have to go through the same.
cheers
Rich

Lots of talk on the forum, here is one example worth doing a search for others.

Re: E10 Petrol
Same subject couple more queries hopefully not already covered. E5 still to be sold but with higher octane level ie super, not withstanding extra expense but will the higher octane ie 98 aka E5 for our vehicles or other similar vehicles, create more heat in the combustion chamber/process and therefore cause damage, my intention is to use E10 but occasionally E5 (super as it will be sold in the future) hoping the mixture will keep things happy.

Re: E10 Petrol
My local Asda petrol station rebranded all its unleaded pumps 2 weeks ago to E10 alongside relevant warning notices appying to pre 2011 vehicles.
Assuming i am now using E10 (it does smell a bit different from exhaust) i can report no loss of power or economy.
I use my bus every day with no issues.

New E10 Petrol
Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone knows if a 1983 1.9DG Petrol engine will be OK running on the new E10 (10% Ethanol) petrol that will be rolling out accross the UK over the next year or so?
Cheers!

Re: New E10 Petrol
Loads of posts on the forum about this, many point to having to change fuel lines, worth having a search under Ethanol E10 on the Forum.

Some discussion on it here - viewtopic.php?f=37&t=174499
Think the consensus is that all you need to do is replace the fuel hoses for ethanol-safe ones

E10 and the WIKI
Just a thought but due to the amount of topics and different posts being raised relating to E10 is there any mileage of it being added to the WIKI as a pointer to all future queries. Updated by a person of knowledge of what is known now and as required when new information becomes available.
