Broken spigot on brake vacuum pump woes..

Post by Sagemagoo »

ImageImageImageImageImageManaged to snap off the plastic spigot from the brake vacuum pump on my 1.6TD Gipsy 84/85. Ordered a repair kit (£15 vs £150 for the whole pump) but it’s the wrong size. The shape and position of the spigot is different and the bolt holes don’t match up. Replacement gaskets are too big.
Everywhere I’ve looked the repair kits are the same - anyone had experience of this and can advise?
Trying to avoid the whole pump thing and worried that might not fit either...
Thanks

Can’t you pop the spigot out of the plate ? And swap it over to the original

What is the part number of the pump you are fitting it to ?  I have an original vw pump 068 145 207.

Upload pics which one you have.
There are two kinds. Both are available aftermarket (JPgroup branded) but only one is stocked at the usual vendors. Most probably you have the other one.

Here's my solution

Image

I knocked out the remains of the plastic valve, then welded a spigot onto the top plate. Lapped the underside of the plate flat on some abrasive. Short length of vacuum tube, and a generic non-return valve (from a T2 actually). This has worked OK for 11 years.
1.9D (AEF) pop-top. Aaaaahhhhh........that's better.

Photos added. Different shape, holes don’t align. I’ve drilled out a new hole in the replacement top and it seems to fit ok, I’ve had to stick with the old ‘O’ ring tho which wasn’t in great shape.
I was tempted to drift out and replace the spigot from the new piece but wasn’t sure if I’d damage it or get it right again so went with this...

Not sure I’m afraid - you can see on the old pump the spigot is close to the bolt hole, on the newer ones it’s more centralised between the bolt holes and is a slightly different shape. Which one do you reckon you’ve got?

The one i have is the same as your old broken one, you can have the whole pump, not sure its condition , but either way it will fix your problem.

The partnrs for the two kind of lids are 028145111A and 068145111A.
The 068 part should be the earlier, the one you need.
However partnrs are badly referenced all over everywhere.
JP Group says their 1117150810 partnr is the 068145111A
And their 1117150610 is the 028145111A
I could not decipher which one is which, but on Mechatechnik they are clearly selling one for the 54mm and one for the 58mm diameter pump

If you have the JPG partnr of the one you got, then we can rule out the one you need.

Thanks, I see what you mean - googling those partnrs and it’s really hit n miss which one pops up. I’m kinda hoping my bodge will hold out - so far so good. Out of interest do you know if the two complete pumps are interchangeable?

That’s really kind of you - Thank you. I’m hoping the bodged lid I put on will work - if not I’ll come back to you 👍👍

AFAIK they are interchangeable, but the drive gear may be different so I am not sure.

Quick question, above is my pump cover similar to the original post. My spiggot is still happily attached to the hose but any suggestions how I can reattach the spiggot to the lid or is it best to find a replacement? Currently it fits in fairly snug but could easily detach which would be less than ideal?
