Radiator sizes

Post by ash1293 »

Since I was dropping the radiator pack to investigate the noisy fan I thought I’d take the opportunity to renew seeing it was still on it’s original from ‘89 and showing signs of corrosion.

Did a bit of research and thought I’d done alright by picking up an NRF 53944, states 42mm thickness, brazed fins etc and a 5yr warranty.

Problem that I now see is my original radiator is nearly 60mm across fins (presume 44mm core?) and the new is 42mm (assuming 34mm core)

So do I fit it anyway in the hope a new thinner one will still be better than an old thicker one?

Old radiator with dense fins, appears to have two offset rows of large ‘cores’ numbering around 17 in each. Difficult to see due to the dense fins.

New radiator the ‘cores’ are in line with each other, smaller and are around 40 in each.

So I reckon the 60mm is just an original old design superseded by newer radiator technology/manufacturing.

Hella back catalog only list two variants and according to technical diagrams they measure 34 & 44mm across the fins.

So I’m leaning towards this one being ok.

I'm certain it's much much better than a 30yr old rad !

It’s fitted, bled and tested up to temp.

I’m in no real doubt it’ll be ok, just wasn’t really expecting the one I took off to be near 60mm

Thanks, last time I looked at mine, I thought that needs replacing at some time.
