Switch is normally closed - i.e. the pressure pushes apart the contacts and turns the light off.

Quick check, unplug the wire from the switch, light should go off. If light stays on you have issues with the wiring.

If it goes off with wire unplugged it is either a faulty switch, or you actually have low oil pressure.....

I personally wouldn't start it or drive it until you have confirmed which it is!

It’s quite common for the brown wire from the oil switch to get damaged by the exhaust , so check that it’s isn’t connecting with the engine or any metal parts ?

Thanks! I disconnected it at the joint in the engine bay, connected it back and its working perfectly fine now. Light goes off as soon as the engine is on. The socket has green residue - certainly need to replace some of these

Excellent news.

I would sort out the dipstick though so you have a way of accurately checking the oil!
