Stumble, stall under throttle

Have you seen this post, I bought a gas tester some time back and use it ocassionally, not sure how much they are now but give a basic reading when adjusting mixtures.  Maybe worth the expense if you have to adjust from time to time.

Definitely on my wishlist! Too expensive for me at the moment... That said, would it be that expensive to pay someone to set the carbs up? Hmm. It might be worth buying after all...

I'll have a think tomorrow when I'm not having a migraine.

OK so it still runs like absolute cack. This time we have pops out the exhaust, occasionally the intake, and very lethargic acceleration.

I have pulled the distributor cap off and found this.
The rotor arm is completely different to the one on Brickwerks, but similar to the Haynes one. I tried swapping the one over from my Polo but they're different sizes. The one here has its contact ~30 degrees off the Brickwerks one.

Ouch, that doesn't look good at all! But it does make sense of the distributor needing to be turned so far anticlockwise. The rotor arm is clearly wrong, both the offset of the contact as well as its diameter. A new arm and cap on your shopping list.

Looks like the Rev Limiter type of rotor some fit, was the rotor completely pushed home in the distributor as it looks as if it was skimming the top of the contacts in the Distributor cap, either way looks like a mismatch.

Urghh, bin it. Horrible things, loads of trouble. Your ears and right foot are a rev limiter, no need for another. Just fit a standard rotor arm.

Aye, it don't look healthy, does it? Got new cap and rotor on the way from brickwerks, let's see what this does...

So this rotor is meant to limit the RPMs? How does that even work?

the rev limiting one is fat, and has a spring loaded contact that when you reach 5600 revs disconnects the HT .

the non limiting one has no moving parts and looks like a normal rotor .....

either will work, the rev limiting one is the recommended part, but lets be honest, unless you are "the sherrif", you wont rev it that high anyway.... so either will do the job......

the limited ones sometimes fail due to corrosion on the contact

Thanks, I'll stick with the normal one then! It seems to be a bit happier like this.

Is it worth getting one of these things to set up my carbs? Or something else? Or should I leave it up to a garage?
