Re: Missing expansion tank?
Just thought I should give a quick update incase anyone else has the same problem in future.
I fitted the belts back in the correct way and the van runs like a dream no sqealing at all! The top belt ended up being shorter than the 600 that is recommended so just ordered one to the size of string I used to measure it.
I have fitted the coolant tank behind the flap and assume it's working as can feel heat in the pipe leading into it. Im guessing the hole at the top isn't capped as I couldn't see anything on it in Bentley manual.
So big thanks to everyone for the help!

Re: Missing expansion tank?
I have an 89 T3 1.6TD which keeps stripping auxiliary belts. So just so that i've grasped the right set up
The Aux belt runs around the alternator to the back pulley of the water pump, whilst the water pump belt runs around the crankshaft and the front pulley of the water pump - as per the diagram
So to replace the aux belt, you will need to loosen/remove the water pump belt to slip the aux belt on the rear pulley on the water pump

Yeh you have to take off water pump belt to fit the one behind. will post a phot of how I've got it now but I'm new to all this so don't take my word for it!
