Engine flooding with fuel. DJ2.1 1989 Auto. Broken down in roadside
Before l call recovery. Any help please? I need to continue my journey.
On turning ignition key the fuel pump runs contantly and is flooding engine so badly petrol drips out of joins in exhaust.
Removed very wet plugs. Dried and tried once more. But same issue.
I really need to continue my journey to Chichester (90 miles away) today for various reasons.
Regards
Stuart

oof blimey, Wasn't there a post a few days back about the fuel pressure regulator being duff that could cause that?
Hope you got it sorted stu

Yes there was!
Be very careful about continually cranking the engine if the amount of oil in the sump has been doubled in quantity by a duff fuel pressure regulator!

Thanks to both. Despite phone calls to Mocki and Davidoft (thanks guys. Owe you one) offering good info, the camper was relayed to Maxine's stables nearby. Luckily l can stay overnight there in a small touring caravan.
Have hired a car to continue with journey early tomorrow. So will leave camper where it is for the next fews days.
On return from Chichester will get to grips with this issue.
Such a shame this happened. The camper was running really well. And has buggered up all sorts of plans for the next four days.
Will check oil level now.
Cheers fella's.

Re: Engine flooding with fuel. DJ2.1 1989 Auto. Broken down in roadside
Posted this in your fpr thread, but incase you miss it-
I'd be looking to see where the fuel pump signal power comes from. It's Been awhile since I had my dijijet system, but isn't there a relay box in the engine bay (left side?) with the fuel pump relay? And another one there too. Could it be a bad relay sticking closed? I know you can force the pump to run continuously by jumping that relay with ignition on...

Re: Engine flooding with fuel. DJ2.1 1989 Auto. Broken down in roadside
fuel pump should switch off once fuel rail is at pressure (maybe as above relay controlled), so if relay is working and yours isn't then fuel system is not holding pressure either because an injector has failed open or is being switched open and is pissing fuel into the inlet manifold/cylinder(s) or the fuel regulator has failed and is allowing the fuel to return to the tank, but imho the former is more likely so plugs out and see if you have a wet one(s) first, that would also account for poor running inability to start
the injectors are permanently live and are flashed to earth to open by the ecu or a wiring fault so check the wiring to see if there is any damage (eg rodents or melted by exhaust)

Thanks to both for your answers. Will start with exchanging regulator on my return.

I'd whip one pair of injectors out and turn ignition on, see if they're hosing. If not, then crank and measure injection volume and check spray patterns. Quick easy check.

Re: Engine flooding with fuel. DJ2.1 1989 Auto. Broken down in roadside
Right. After a very testing four days working on my sister's yacht in pouring rain lm back with my sick camper.
(Btw the everso boring rental Astra 1600 petrol six speed is also incredibly uneconomical...averaged 32mpg over 315 miles. Brimmed tank. Then refilled to return car).
First l checked dipstick for petrol. No smell. Level is higher due to camper sitting on upward slope. Tried igniting dipstick to burn off any petrol residue. Nothing. Then thought will petrol sit on top of oil or bottom or even mix together?
Will whip out one bank of injectors tomorrow. Then the other side. Do l need to replace any disturbed seals?
Relays for fuel pump and injectors were swapped round in an earlier test. Same issue. Pump runs constantly on ignition. Will test both relays with 12 volts across terminals for clicky clicky tomorrow. Took left bank plugs out. Both very wet. With check right bank tomorrow
Camper was running beautifully beforehand. No issues whatsoever. Just failed to start when picking up my old Dad. Then stank and dripped petrol from exhaust joints. Then l noted fuel pump not stopping after split second for priming.
Will update after above checks.

Right bank removed. Not sure how to load a video but nice constant conical spray pattern.
But pump not cutting off after priming.

A photo. Relay's tested and working. Looks like an ECU earth issue not cutting off fuel pump after priming.
So should l test fuel regulator or ECU wiring next?
