I am a new owner of 1987 t25 converted panel van with a 1.6td jx engine.
While renovating the inside I have found 3 belts and what looks like a bracket hidden in one of cupboards.
I was hoping someone could tell me what they are for and what I should look for if they were originally bought for replacement but the previous owner never got round to doing.
It has been a hell of a steep learning curve buying this van and any help is much appreciated. Hope the pictures work!
Cheers

Re: Found some "left over" parts
The belts are belts. They drive the water pump and the altrrnator. Either one or two different sizes depends on the engine configuration.
The bracket is for the air filter housing. Two of these holds the filter housing in place on the left side of the engine (big black cylinder)
Open your engine lid and check what you have installed

Re: Found some "left over" parts
Thanks for info.
I assume the belts must be due a replacement. Not sure why the bracket would be missing but will have a look tonight at refitting it!

The smaller size is probably for the power steering, which is on a separate belt from the water pump / alternator.
I’m guessing the air filter bracket is also a spare rather than something that has been removed.

Don't be tempted to use the belts just because they came with the van. Check they are the correct type for your engine and configuration as mentioned above. There have been a couple of recent posts on here regarding fitting wrong or incorrectly fitted belts which have caused problems.

Thanks I never thought they might have just been kept as spares. I wish I had power steering! Nearly put my shoulder out first time reversing it onto drive ha

Re: Found some "left over" parts
It’s worth keeping a few engine specific spares like belts tucked away somewhere in your van, just in case. I had to change our alternator belt last summer in a dark lay-by, on a small Cornish country road. Having a spare belt and a few spanner’s to hand meant that it was only a lost 40 minutes, rather than a recovery leading to a potential early end to our holiday.
