Carb leak?

Post by Merrsh1 »

Hello all

Just wanted to know if anyone has any advice or has encountered this before...

The left hand carb has a slight weep from a bolt

Image

Is this as simple as replacing a gasket?

Also getting a slight leak from here too, I cleaned it off yesterday but it’s made an appearance again...

They do tend to weep a little along the spindle shaft. Not simile to fix, needs drilling out very accurately and a brass bush inserting. More urgent however,  it is missing the grub screw that holds the venturi in place.

On the carb body, just above the 13mm nut on the send photo, is a threaded hoLe.  There should be a grub screw that secures the venturi. Both cars have them, sometimes they loosen.
I'm very impressed with how clean they are, even after ultrasonic cleaning mine didn't shine that much!

Thanks, I’ll add the grub screw. The leak has got worse, it’s actually unburnt fuel... Image

Giving this a bit of a bump...

Further investigation of this leads me to believe this is caused by a worn float valve. It only leaks when the van isn’t running...

I’ve recently fitted an electric pump and it seems this can happen as the pressure overwhelms the float valve.

Does this seem likely and if so is there a way for me to confirm it?
