Quick thread size question...

Hi all

Anyone know the thread size for the bolts that hold the ignition coil into place please?

I think they're a pair of M6, but need to check so I don't trash the threads. I'm out and about and wanted to pick a tap up to clean the threads up before putting new bolts in there. Possibly M5s?

Cheers
Chewie

I am 99.9% sure they are M6

VW didnt tend to go much smaller and fwiw, there are a pair of reinforcing plates spotwelded onto the wheel side of the panel, about 25mm square

Brilliant. Thank you.

It's those plates I don't want to mess up, but the bolts that came out looked like dead, brown, garden slugs, so I thought running a tap into them first would be a win.
I just forgot to check the size.

M6 x10mm originally, because they extend into the wheel arch they rust once the original sealant breaks down, put some waxoil or plastic sealer over the exposed threads once fitted

Cheers guys.

Grabbed a tap, I'll see what I can do this weekend.
Have some new stainless bolts ready to go & a big pot of underseal.

M6x1 (normal pitch) is a 5mm tapping drill (thread size - pitch for std metric threads), so if a 5mm diameter drill goes in...

All sorted, just need to finish painting up the bracket. The screws don't look square in this pic, but they're alright really.

Thanks guys.
