Which oil - T25 1.9 litre watercooled engine

Post by fernsd »

Hi,

Please could someone advice which oil I need for my T25 1.9 litre water-cooled engine.

It seems to be all confusing on the internet. Some say 15w/40 whereas some mention 10w/40.

Thanks,
Desmond.

Is it best to stick to 15/40 or is it worthwhile changing to 20/50 with the engine at over 110,000 miles?
Oil changed every 6 months, filter every 12. DG 1983.

15w40 mineral oil seems to be the chosen grade and it's the original spec.

would be interesting to know if anyone uses 20w50 on higher mileage engines that haven't been rebuilt for a while.

Just a thought, 20/50 is recommended for hotter climates where I suppose the engine gets hotter and the oil thinner, not sure if recommended for our climate especially if doing an oil change this time of year, if all ok with last oil change and engine was ok I would stick with the same stuff I put in last time.

I always use Valvoline VR1 20/50 Mineral in mine (both previous and after top end rebuild).

Drop it out every 6 months.

Hi All,

Yet another oil question! 🙃

I have serviced my recently purchased T3 camper with WBX 1.9 DG engine.

I used 15w40 Mineral oil (recommended by brickwerks) but now my tappets are solid 🤦‍♂️

Oil seems to be the obvious cause, any recommendations before I end up banging in the wrong oil 😂

Oil pressure ok and van ran find before hand.
I don't want to run it for more than a few minutes.
The tappets (hydraulic lifters) used to move when setting up tappet clearance.
